Rotorua Councillor Russell Judd turned on the power during a workshop on Sustainable Living held in Rotorua on May 16.
Russell attended the workshop to discuss the evening's topic - Energy.
Under the guidance of Justin Ford-Robertson, the participants explored how energy is generated and used in New Zealand and what individuals can do to save energy and contribute to combat the effects of global warming.

Energy Options supported the evening with information about solar water heating, renewable fuels and clean fires for home heating - and with the ever popular lighting device.
An old SmartDrive engine is used as a generator to power two lamps. One lamp is fitted with a conventional light bulb, the other one with an energy efficient, compact fluorescent bulb. Turning the handle creates electricity. By switching between the lamps, it |
becomes quite evident how much harder our power stations have to work to generate electricity for conventional light bulbs.
Russell was duly impressed: "I want all councillors to see that! This really makes it clear what the energy saving lamps can do."
The participants of the workshop went home with a couple of new light bulbs each, courtesy of Energy Options.
Every bit counts if you want to make a difference. |
